M.J.'S DEATH IS GOOD BUSINESS AND A STIMULUS TO THE ECONOMY!

posted Sunday, 28 June 2009

I mean absolutely no disrespect to Michael Jackson or to his family or friends.  But his death has been a bonanza to the news media (video & print), advertising, and to the music industry.  Like Elvis, Michael will probably be a bigger seller after death, than he was the last 15 years of his life.

The news media has been a wall to wall experience of Michael Jackson, since his death.  These folks are feeding off the King of Pop to the point where they no longer call him Wacko Jacko!  Remember the time, when they disrespected Michael at every turn possible.  Now, there's this unbelievable love for this highly talented and equally eccentric celebrity who has passed.   Newspapers in New York ran out very early in the day.  Stores selling everything from clothes, shoes, groceries and restaurants are playing MJ's music like never before, when just a few days before, it was persona non grata!  People want to be a part of this frenzy.

The death Farah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, and even the infidelity of South Carolina's Governor Mark Sanford (happily) have taken a backseat to the death of Michael Jackson.

The music bins, in the remaining music stores, and even on the internet, are experiencing heavy sales of MJ's music.   We know the tributes and award shows will be giving out Michael Jackson awards to their latest recipients of high honor to draw attention to their events.  Michael's music will get increased notice by everyone, in the same vein as Tupac and Biggie Smalls did after their deaths - but on a larger scale worldwide.

Michael was human like the rest of us, who grow up with some tough childhood experiences leading to his being flawed as an adult.  You often hear me talk about living our passions.  Well Michael lived those passions.  His biggest problem was living through an identity crisis of self hatred.  He could have engaged in changing his physical look due to not wanting to identify with the person who had gone through early abusive trauma.  Abuse that most likely shaped him into the person he became - dynamic, compassionate, and flawed, simultaneously.

This is what the media, and those who were envious of him, made fun of - Wacko Jacko!  One of the greatest entertainers, music personalities, creative and innovative people of our time, downgraded by a media that supported policies (foreign and domestic) that maimed and killed innocent people and have brought this nation virtually to its knees.  Yet, he's Wacko Jacko!

Many of us grew up with MJ, living vicariously through him.  But how much did folks really know him, outside of his being a superstar?  And if we truly loved Michael as much as many say they do and did, WHY DID WE NOT TRY TO ASSIST IN FREEING HIM FROM THE TORMENT OF HIS PAST?  WHERE WAS HIS FAMILY AND THOSE WHO CLAIMED TO HAVE LOVED HIM?  WHERE WAS THE PUBLIC'S COMPASSION?

Michael Jackson, a super talented, superstar who lived a bizarre life of compassion amid an identity crisis.  Rest in peace, Michael!

I completely agree with what you've said. the media never focused on all the charity work that MJ did, instead they focused on his eccentricity. & this in turn made him shy away from the spotlight. he will be sorely missed as music takes a downward spiral to being simple catchy beats & songs of no lyrical substance. MJ Rest in Peace.
